Rapier is ridiculous. Just started a fresh character to pass an hour this morning and grabbed myself a rapier, at +4 it's already crushed the last giant, pursuer and dragonrider first try, including runs to the bosses. I'm not exactly great at DS2 but my god this thing's R1 feels so safe to punish enemies with, think I've had to down 2-3 chugs ...
