L5P fuel filter failure. After being down for weeks I finally took off on another haul yesterday and almost made it 100 miles. Pulled over and shut the truck off. Came back out and all it would do is crank. No start. Tried a few things that didn’t work then dropped the new GM fuel filter for a look.

No major, recurring issues with the first generation of L5P trucks. One of the most common is the coolant tank sensor going bad. Another thing that owners have noticed is the TMAP sensor getting caked with soot and causing other issues. The fuel pumps don't appear to be an issue on the L5P motors. At least not in the sense the LML trucks were.Your Allison came with Dex-IV in it from GM, Dex-IV is a synthetic and a very good fluid. Doing a double drain is a waste of money personally. Change it to your fluid of choice and change it again 25k later. If you're going to deviate from Dex-IV pick and TES 668 fluid and sleep happy. It doesn't matter.

The L5P has new heads on it that flow much better and a new fuel injection system but the main engine is mainly the same. Main and oil cooling were increased to deal with the extra power.
